TESTING AND MEASUREMENTS OF TRANSFORMERS

We conduct technical inspections of power transformers:
  1. Group II – oil-type transformers with a capacity greater than 2.5 MVA up to 100 MVA and a maximum rated voltage of up to 110 kV.
  2. Group III – oil-filled transformers with a power rating up to 2.5 MVA.
  3. Group IV – dry-type and composite Insulation transformers.

Types of technical tests performed on transformers by OPA S.A.:
Depending on the type of technical inspection and the group to which a given transformer belongs, the scope of measurements and tests of transformers may vary. We can distinguish the following measurements and tests of transformers, which we perform in our company:
  • External inspection of the transformer.
  • Verification of the transformer’s equipment.
  • Measurements of the transformer’s gear and verification of the connection group.
  • Measurement of winding resistance.
  • Measurement of insulation resistance of the windings.
  • Measurement of magnetising currents.
  • Verification of the tap changer.
  • Measurement of the dynamic resistances of the on-load tap changer.
  • Measurement of the on-load tap changer switching times.
  • Measurement of winding capacitance and insulation loss factor (tgδ).
  • Testing the mechanical condition of windings using the Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA) method.
  • Measurement of insulation moisture content using the FDS (Frequency Domain Spectroscopy) method.
  • Testing of oil properties.
  • Verification of the Buchholz relay operation.
  • Verification of control panel operation, cooling system, tap changer drive, oil flow indicators, valves, and thermostats.
  • Verification of the transformer venting, coolers, pumps, bushings, conservator, tap changer, current transformers, etc.
  • Checking the silica gel in the dehumidifier.
  • Verification of the electric shock protection of control cabinets.
  • Thermal imaging inspection of transformers.
  • Study of transformer vat vibrations (vibroacoustic analysis of the transformer).
  • Measurement of the active power consumption of the on-load tap changer motor.
  • And others.
